A Splice-in Trailer Wiring Option

A taillight converter is a reliable splice-in wiring option that is simple and straightforward for installing a wiring harness for towing a trailer. Trailer converters splice into your vehicle's existing wiring and provide an alternative if custom wiring is not available for your specific application.

A CURT powered 3-to-2-wire tail light converter is a great option for providing a standard 4-way flat connection for hooking up your trailer lights to your vehicle. 3-to-2-wire trailer converters are the most common and are compatible with a wide variety of vehicles.

Powered taillight converter kits work by supplying the power necessary for the trailer tail lights through a separate wire from the vehicle’s battery, whereas non-powered systems use the vehicle's existing wiring to power the trailer converter and lights.

Powered taillight converters are safer and less likely to cause issues with your vehicle's existing wiring systems, although non-powered trailer converter systems can work sufficiently and are easier to install, as long as the light amperage from the trailer does not exceed your factory wiring.
