Retractable Awning FAQ
10-Year Warranty
Backed by a 10-year limited warranty, the Lumina™ awning delivers effortless comfort, modern design, and reliable protection.
Where can a Solera® Lumina™ retractable awning be installed on my home?
A Solera® Lumina™ retractable awning can be installed on most residential walls, roofs, or under eaves/soffits. Our installers evaluate your siding and structure on-site, and the system is compatible with common exterior materials including wood, vinyl, aluminum, masonry, and brick.
Does the Solera® Lumina™ retractable awning include a wind sensor for safety?
Yes. Every motorized Solera® Lumina™ retractable awning includes an integrated wind sensor. When the sensor detects significant movement from gusts, it automatically retracts the awning to help protect the frame, fabric, and your home.
Can I adjust the angle or pitch of a Solera® Lumina™ retractable awning?
Yes. The Solera® Lumina™ features a 0–45° pitch adjustment so you can fine-tune the angle of the awning for morning or afternoon sun. This lets you increase shade coverage when the sun is low and open your view when you want more sky.
How durable is the fabric on Solera® Lumina™ retractable awnings?
Solera® Lumina™ uses premium Sunbrella® woven acrylic fabric that is engineered for long-term outdoor use. The material is UV-resistant, colorfast, and designed to withstand everyday exposure to sun, light rain, and temperature changes when used as directed.
Can I use a retractable awning during power outages or when power is unavailable?
Because the Solera® Lumina™ plugs into a standard 110V outlet, a power outage will prevent motor operation. In that case, use the included manual crank wand to extend or retract your awning by hand.
Do I need to hire an electrician or pull permits for a Solera® Lumina™ retractable awning?
In most residential installations you do not need an electrician because the Solera® Lumina™ does not require hardwiring. Local permitting requirements vary by municipality and HOA, but retractable awnings are often treated as exterior appliances rather than structural additions. Your Solera® representative can help you understand what applies to your property.
What kind of maintenance does a retractable awning require?
Routine maintenance for a Solera® Lumina™ retractable awning is straightforward: periodically rinse the Sunbrella® fabric with water, allow the awning to dry fully before retracting, and visually inspect brackets and moving arms for debris. Our semi-cassette housing protects the fabric when closed, which helps reduce cleaning frequency compared to exposed awnings.
