• Phillips-head screwdriver
• Power drill with spade bit
• Tape measure
• Painter’s tape (optional)
• Pencil or marker for marking holes

Step 1: Secure the Door

Start by making sure your RV door is stable and won’t move during installation. You can use a doorstop or have someone hold it steady while you work.

Step 2: Remove the Existing Latch

Using your screwdriver, remove the screws that hold the current door latch and latch plate in place. Carefully take off both components and set them aside. Be sure to clean out any debris or dust from the latch area and around the bore holes.

Step 3: Position the Template

Next, grab the installation template included with your LatchXtend. Align the top of the template with the top of the existing bore hole. Insert the guide tray into the template and press it flat against the door. Use a tape measure to ensure the template is square to the edge of the door. If needed, secure it in place with painter’s tape.

Step 4: Mark & Drill New Holes

Mark the two center points for the new bore holes using a pencil or marker. Once marked, remove the template and guide tray. Then, using a 1-1/8" spade bit, carefully drill out the two new holes at the marked locations.

Step 5: Prepare the LatchXtend Assembly

Lay the LatchXtend assembly on a flat surface. Remove the two screws that hold the anchor plate to the back of the extension bar. This will allow you to separate the front and back components for installation.

Step 6: Install the Handle Assembly

Insert the LatchXtend handle into the top original bore and the new bottom bore you just drilled. Reattach the latch plate and hand-tighten the screws to hold it in place.

Step 7: Attach the Anchor Plate

Now, install the back plate (anchor plate) on the inside of the door. Hand-tighten the screws to bring the front and back assemblies together. Make sure everything is aligned and flush with the door surface.

Step 8: Install the Locking Mechanism

Insert the locking mechanism into the original top bore. Rotate the bolt knob so it slides over the D-shaped stem. Test the deadbolt to ensure it operates smoothly, then leave it in the locked position.

Step 9: Final Tightening

Loosely install the screws that secure the locking mechanism. Once everything is aligned, tighten the hardware on the back side of the locking mechanism in an “X” pattern to ensure even pressure. Then, tighten the screws on the anchor plate and latch plate.

Step 10: Test the Handle

Finally, test the LatchXtend to make sure everything works properly. Open and close the door several times, check the locking mechanism, and ensure there are no visible gaps around the handle or bore holes. The handle should feel secure and operate smoothly.
