Descaling Your Furrion Tankless Water Heater
Over time, minerals from your water supply can build up inside your tankless water heater, reducing its efficiency. Descaling helps break down these mineral deposits to keep your system clean and running smoothly.
Step 1: Prep the Heater and System
- Remove the Exterior Door: Start by unlatching and removing the door to access the system.
- Turn Off the Power: Locate the power switch on the unit and turn it off.

- Shut Off Water and Gas: Close the cold water inlet, hot water outlet, and gas line valves.
- Disconnect the Plumbing: Carefully disconnect the plumbing connected to the cold water inlet and hot water outlet.

Step 2: Set Up the Descaling System
- Attach the Hoses: Connect one flexible hose to the cold water inlet and the other to the hot water outlet.

- Prepare the Bucket: Attach the other end of the cold water inlet hose to the submersible pump and place the pump inside the 5-gallon bucket.
- Add Vinegar: Pour four gallons of distilled white vinegar into the bucket.

- Position the Hoses: Ensure the hot water outlet hose is also directed into the bucket for circulation.
Step 3: Run the Pump
Turn on the pump and let it circulate the vinegar through the water heater for 45 to 60 minutes. This will effectively break down mineral deposits and thoroughly clean the system.

Step 4: Drain the Vinegar
- Remove the Baffle and Drain Plug: Open the baffle on the exterior door housing and place a bucket under the drain plug.
- Drain the Solution: Unscrew the drain plug to allow the vinegar solution to exit into the bucket. Properly dispose of the vinegar.
- Refill with Clean Water: Rinse out the bucket and fill it with four gallons of fresh water.
Step 5: Clean the Water Filter
- Unscrew the Filter: Use needle nose pliers to carefully unscrew the water filter.

- Clean or Replace the Filter: If the filter is reusable, clean it thoroughly with water and a mild detergent. If it’s time for a replacement, switch it out with a new one.
- Flush the Heater: Use the pump to circulate fresh water through the heater, flushing out any remaining vinegar.

Step 6: Reassemble and Test
- Reconnect Water Lines: Detach the hoses and reconnect the original water lines to the cold and hot water inlets. Tighten carefully to avoid leaks.
- Turn On the Valves: Reopen the cold and hot water valves, and then the gas valve.
- Restore Power and Close Up: Replace the baffle, turn on the power, and reattach the exterior door to complete the process.
Be sure to regularly maintain your Furrion RV water heater to ensure it continues to work for properly for many years to come!
